Yorktown and Yorktown Battlefield are located in historic Yorktown, Virginia. The historic town of Yorktown dates to 1691 and has a long history connected to enslavement, as the town served as a major port for the importation of enslaved Africans. The battlefield was the site of the siege in September and October of 1781 that culminated in an American Victory, the last major action of the Revolutionary War. Beyond it’s Revolutionary era history, the battlefield also has a rich Civil War history as a site for Civil War entrenchments and a refuge for escaped enslaved persons.
